The story behind Playful Planet calendar

Last year I had a vision of experiencing this world for the first time;

my body wrapped in a warm blanket of my environment, my little spot on a rolling rock within an endless universe leaving a fuzzy, electric feeling in my throat; a sense of belonging within my bones combined with a universal understanding of the cyclical nature of all things…

It was a vision of the universe outside of the current deeply anxious zeitgeist, filled with imagery and stories as old as time. I wanted to capture it, turn it into something tangible and share it with someone else. I called it Playful Planet, named after the idea that we live within a playful universe (found in a book called Play by Stuart Brown).

Since ever, the cycles of planetary movements that keep us in our magical dance of seasonal changes and reoccurring natural events, have been captivating humanity’s imagination.

I wanted to explore the yearly cyclicality in illustrations for you to feel a sense of connection with the timeless experience of the natural cycle. I wanted to capture the tiny but wholesome excitement of these little events we like to celebrate, for them to not go by unnoticed as we rush through our endless to-do lists…I hoped to help you connect with the natural world and planetary movements, as well as notice the similarities between astronomy, astrology, folklore and world religions & their celebrations. The stories we tell ourselves about the seasonal passage of time are universal indeed and I find them fascinating.

There are two different wall calendar sizes available for order on my shop: a large one (A3) and a mini.

Both include:

the monthly illustrations, full and new moons, solstices and equinoxes, zodiac seasons, as well as automatically added holidays of the country of your order.

The large one additionally includes:

the origin on month names, as well as the descriptions of symbols found in the monthly illustrations, for a greater understanding of the folklore, natural events and cultural interpretations behind each month’s illustration.

They are printed on demand to avoid leftover stock and shipped by a local facility closest to your order, to shorten their travel distance and lessen their environmental imprint. It also allows me a much needed break over the festive season.

Thank you so much for supporting this art project and experiencing the playful poetry of the seasonal passage of time together.
